I've have ...let me say the full name "Princess Marcella Borghese Fango Active Mud for Face and Body" for a while now, got it from a friend and after a short research found out that it is really pricey. The package might have changed since it's a while a have it ..Anyway let's go firstly through a description of it then my review.
What it is?
A spa mud mask for both face and body.According to it's description it contains aqua di vita complex ('living water') which at first sounded a bit odd since i wondered what the difference of it and the regular water/spring water. The bottle didn't state much but somewhere on their site they state (along with it being approved by ELLE magazine as one of the worlds Best beauty products and seen on lucky magazine on 2007):
Tuscan Thermal Water ResearchThe complex, derived from Italian mineral waters, has a specific chemical composition. The mineral water has high percentages of sulfur, magnesium, potassium, sodium, chloride, calcium, bromide, iodide and carbonate. These 9 minerals benefit cells in the following manner:
- Immune and Endocrine System - Peptides helpful with counter-acting and coping with the aging process are contained within the complex.
- Anti-inflammation - Crucial because skin has sensitivities to the environment and aging. The complex has a natural basis of anti-inflammatory agents.
- Anti-aging Properties - Magnesium and potassium counteract some of the aging effects on the skin.
- ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) - Natural energizers help oxygenate skin, assisting in cell energy transfer and metabolism.
- Hydration - Improves skin's metabolism in regards to collagen and elastin fibers. Water is locked into cells providing elasticity and moisture nourishment.
- Moisture Balance - Provided by amino acids.
- When the Acqua di Vita® Complex reaches the brain, endorphins are released into the blood. The perceptions of our feelings are positively modified.
- Change in Emotions - People look more happy and relaxed, - overcome by feelings of wellness.

Now i finally get it and oh that sounds cool especially the mood improvement and boost of minerals for the skin.
Now back to the product what it claims:

MY REVIEW
Product description by me:
Colour: dark green-grey olive colour
smell: not offensive or overpowering ; a subtle clay smell
consistency: very thick paste but smooth at the same time
price: Prices vary but on the site for the size i have on the pic it's 35$ for 7.0 oz so you can say it's in the very expensive side
How i used it:
I gently washed my face with a liquid soap then towel blotted.I left a little moisture on my skin to make it easier to spread in the application.I applied a light coating on my face avoiding around the eyes and mouth area.I left it on for 10 min, somewhere there you feel it tightening your skin so avoid making grimaces ha :).Then washed it out and applied my moisturizer. This is how i usually use it.
On my package it states "Gives skin a new surge of vitality, a clean youthful radiance.Potent with natural minerals, organic riches and Acqua di Vira complex (Living Water')"
My breakdown on the statements (oh another thing i took notice is that my pack didn't have ingredient list which also is odd i believe even sample sizes should have it..Also no expiry date so i wonder if it ever loses its potency and probably it never expires).
After some more research i found the ingredients, probably they can change the formula at any time but basically in mvwah site it states:
1st ingredient is water.
2nd ingredient
bentonite is a type of clay that is used as an oil-controlling absorbent in cosmetics, especially for oily skin. It also acts an active thickening substance that keeps the homogenous form and maintains the moisture levels.
3rd ingredient
Propylene glycol at low concentration is used as a humectant or humidifying and delivery ingredient to keep from drying. It is easily absorbed through skin. At higher concentraion it could a potent skin irritant. PG could provoke skin irritation and sensitization at concentration as low as 2%. In fact U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a warning to avoid skin contact to prevent brain, liver, and kidney abnormalities.
4th ingredient sweet almond (Prunus dulcis) oil is natural emollient oil.
Also
Preservatives
Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben
Binding agentsHydroxyethylcellulose
Emulsifiers(oil/water mixers) Polysorbate 20, Cellulose gum
Thickening agentsMagnesium aluminum silicate, Fuller's earth (Solum fullonum)
Chelating agents(metal-binding agents) Trisodium EDTA
ColorantsIron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Chromium Oxide Greens (CI 77289), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891)
My point of views in the claims:
-new surge of vitality? yep
-clean youthful radiance? Clean -yes Youthful radiance - skin felt more firm and had a slight radiance (i'm young though so i guess i'm already youthful)
-Potent minerals...?It would be nice if it stated those minerals on the bottle but yes clays are rich in minerals.
-Mood improvement? Definitely. At least if nothing else it often makes me smile after rinsing it out due to the clarity i see in my skin. But any good product will make you happier if it actually does do a good job.So that could happen for any product.
-more input? Skin clarity, light detoxifying and exfoliating action.
- !!!ingredients: Not that great. The fact that after research while you think you have a 100% natural product due to the description you end up with an amount of not-so-natural chemicals is questionable. Also those with sensitivities/allergies might like to keep a closer eye to some of the ingredients (propylene glycol, parabens, fragrance, colourings e.t.c) in it and avoid it in case of probable triggering of them. Now for overall ingredients and cosmetic data safety check this out full details in each ingredient ->cosmetic database safety borghese active mask face & body it has moderate-high hazard rate.
How it reacts on various skins according to my humble thoughts:
sensitive skin: might cause tiny pimples,a slight redness which subsides within a short time. The pimple though take lot's of time to go.
dry skin: will take out most of your remaining skin oils if you really want to try it you must use a rich face moisturizer later on if at all.
oily skin/ combination skin: i guess you will like it.I believe it's most suitable for oily skin.It draws out excess oils, has boost of minerals, detoxifies what more can i say.Though you will still need an oil free moisturizer after that.
normal skin: here almost everything goes.
-A note: my bottle doesn't state the avocado and other oils on it so with those two added they might be milder on dry/sensitive skin yet i hope not that oily for oily/combination skin
Will i purchase it again?
Probably no, except i want to 'treat' myself so badly with it :). Even so its too heavy for my pocket and there are other cheaper alternatives. But i must say it feels soo nice on the skin and a little goes a long way since it's not something to use daily...anyways. It works pretty well but for it's price i believe it deserved a better ingredient list.
Would i recommend it to someone willing to give the extra cash?
Yes and no!Check it out on your own and figure it out :) If you like trying various products and don't care about prices then you can give it a try. Also if you want to treat yourself.

You need to really do your homework and research before making suggestions about hair products.

Okay Anonymous. Thanks for your constructive critism.Since you have
Deleteso much of experience it would be nice if you could give me some tips on how to further improve and of course some examples/corrections on what you are talking about (what further research/homework i should do e.t.c).That would be even more beneficial. Thanks
for visiting. :)
Would you recommend buying the full size version? I've found a good deal where you can get 170ml for £13.50 and I'm still on the fence about buying it. Does anyone have any thoughts?
ReplyDeleteThanks :-)

Hi Emily,
DeleteI don't know if the 170 ml is the full size because I've seen 200 ml too online. Anyway if you really want to try it then go for it. I might make a homemade mud tutorial in the future that is cheaper and works pretty well too.
You are welcome!
I mostly used Natural skincare products and Thanks for sharing about Borghese Fango Active mud for Face which I found quite interesting i really wants to apply this soon can you tell me where i can found it online...!
