Damage Control: How to be a swimmer with amazing hair!

If you plan to swim a lot this summer this is a must read! This article is written both for professional swimmers or those who swim every now and then. Chlorine and copper badly affects both  the hair and skin of a swimmer, copper is specially known to leave a green tint on blond hair (though it tints all hair types but that isn't as visible due to the dark pigment of the hair). Salt on the other hand for those swimmers that like to swim on the sea or anywhere else that is salty, dries out your hair, makes your hair color dull, gives you ashy skin and the list goes on and on and on. So to get the best hair possible and still follow your hobby or work as a swimmer here is a helpful regimen for you to follow to avoid dull, dry, breaking, tinted hair.

Yes you can have amazing hair as a swimmer :)

Glorious Angel swimmers hair regime:

For professional swimmers

1. Get hold of your tight and good swim cap at all times.
2. Prior to swimming wet your hair with pure water and let it soak then wring it.
3. This does the magic  -> Apply a rich balanced conditioner. When I say balanced conditioner
I mean a conditioner that is moisturizing and has an amount of protein. You might like to have 2 types to alternate  if needed. Apply it gracefully on your wet hair. Then take a shower cap and cover your hair.
4. Put your trust swim cap on top of the shower cap.

Some might be guessing. Glorious Angel what all the hazzle for?

As you are swimming your body heat will help with conditioner penetrate into your hair shaft ;

gaining a luxurious hair treatment and a toned body at the same time. That's cool isn't it?

5. So after your swimming session check and see of your hair has got wet or not. Your hair might be wet from your body heat and not from the water  (if so just rinse the mask out with plain water) but if it's from the chlorinated water you will have to now shampoo your hair with a swimmers shampoo and follow it up with a conditioner.
If you will use the dryer use it on low to medium heat but prior to that apply a heat protectant or serum. If your hair is coarse and naturally dry you can apply your added leave ins too.Now you are well done and your hair is happy too.

For the occasional swimmer

For those of you that swim just once in a while and just won't wear that swim cap. This is what you have to do:
1. Prior to swimming wet your hair with pure water and let it soak; then wring it slightly.
2. Apply a light coating of oil. Any oil will do, I recommend you use coconut oil though.
3. Go swim and enjoy yourself immediately. In case you get out of the water and your hair dries out in the sun wet it again with pure water before diving in.
4. Now that you are done with swimming, go shampoo your hair with a swimmers shampoo and then apply a conditioner. If you overexposed yourself to the chlorinated/salt water make sure you use a mask at least every other shampoo.
5. If you will dry your hair with a dryer follow the tips as stated up there.

!!! Questions:

- Why use a swimmer shampoo?
Swimmer shampoos remove mineral deposites from your hair thus getting rid of copper which leads to green tints, chlorine and some other minerals.A chelating shampoo does the same work though.

- Why apply water and mask or oil before shampoo?
Hair is porous and likes to absorb stuff so in order to reduce the percentage of chlorine, copper, salt e.t.c from getting into your hair. By wetting it first and applying a mask/oil you ensure that your hair is soaked into water and coated thus leading to minimal absorption of the minerals we are avoiding.

- Do you have any shampoos and treatment recommendations?
